Sex Therapy

What is it? Does it involve actual sex? Why would I need it? How is sex therapy different from marriage counseling? These are all very valid questions and here we’ll take a moment to explore them.

COntact Us to find out more!
Topics typically addressed include but are not limited to: sexual/intimacy satisfaction, sexual dysfunction, communication issues, compulsion/addiction, trauma, boundary issues, safety issues, gender identification, sexuality, non-heteronormative dynamics (non-monogamous/kinky), etc.  Some common topics addressed at Realistic Expectations have included things such as:
·         My spouse and I are considering opening our marriage, how do we address that?
·         My spouse and I are poly but we’re struggling within our marriage.
·         I’m kinky but my spouse is not, how do I deal with that?
·         My sex drive is gone, what do I do?
·         We just had a baby and I’m on the verge of walking out, how do I save my marriage?
·         I’m into _____ kink and society tells me that’s wrong, what is wrong with me?

The sex therapy provided by Realistic Expectations, PLLC is talk therapy that directly addresses issues having to do with sexuality, relationships, intimacy, and overall well-being. Typical marriage counseling assumes that once the underlying issues have been resolved, sex will work itself out; sex therapy on the other hand, directly addresses sexual issues without judgement in a supportive, collaborative environment.  Sex therapy is something most individuals can benefit from, for instance being able find peace/satisfaction with one’s body or resolve trauma issues.

Things you will NOT find in sex therapy with Realistic Expectations, PLLC:
·         Judgement for being “different”… whatever “different” means to you
·         A cure for homosexuality (it’s not an illness, therefore no cure is needed!)
·         Sexual acts with a therapist - There will be NO physical contact of any kind
